Well im not using any programs to do it, not that I know of anyway. hmmmm.... I guess if it is 5 sec's in then maybe all my shows are a couple seconds apart from each other... You wouldn't know it by watching them
Well it's not exactly 5 seconds it it does randomize slightly within the first few seconds, but generally for things like tv episodes with the same opening sequence the thumbnails tend to look the same.

I have AVI files automatically open with VLC, maybe that produces the thumbnails instead of windows doing it. Any thoughts?
If your using the haali splitter then yes it has it's own settings that you can adjust the time with.

I never used VLC, it's better than Media Player Classic?
Can you post a pic of the generated thumbs?

    Thanks
well now my thumbnails just have the orange cone, the same as the icon for VLC. It didn't do that in the last build, as I just clean installed 7264 last this morning. But as for vlc being better, I kinda like it better, but just because with VLC you don't have to install any codecs for different file types, they are all built in. And for music I use mediamonkey. I dont really use WMP for anything at all, really.

EDIT- hmmm this is wierd. Some of my AVI files are showing the VLC cone while some are using the WMP thumbnail. Even the ones using the WMP thumb still open with VLC. Here's some of my thumbs

    My solution

    I had the same problem and with help from this forum and more digging found that you need to flush the cached thumbnails under;
    c:\users\username\appdata\local\microsoft\ehome
    and
    c:\users\username\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\explorer
(you may need to log in as another user to make sure these files aren't busy
After this is done, open windows explorer, organize, folder and search options, view tab and verify the following (or make these changes).
Check next to "always show icons, never thumbnails"
Check next to "Display file icons on thumbnails"

Worked for me, the jpg thumbnails stay put.

    Hi all,

I have some mkv files and I want to have custom thumbnails for them, like some jpg images in the same folder as the videos so Windows will display them as thumbnails in explorer instead of the default WMP icons.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks all,
    Max
This is a similar issue i'm having i'll try project Remoulade
