Want to have my pictures come up automatically

while working with pictures, when I click on 'view' then 'sort by' then 'day' to put them in order of being taken, it automatically also put them in 'descending' order which means they are in reverse order. can anyone tell me how to stop this happening please. Thanks:confused:
