    Cannot generate .flv thumbnails

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64. I cannot seem to generate thumbnails for .flv videos. I've tried K-Lite, K-Lite Full and K-Lite Mega, always doing an advanced install, making sure all boxes relating to .flv and thumbnails were checked. I've tried Win7 Codecs and Shark 007. I've tried using both the x86 and x64 versions, alone and in tandem. I've tried using a .reg file. I've tried everything that I can find online, always properly uninstalling one set of codecs and rebooting before trying another one. I've also gone to Control Panel, Folders and unchecked "Always show icons, never thumbnails" and "Display file icon on thumbnails", to no avail.

I've spend hours online researching the matter and hours attempting to get something to work. I didn't have this problem when I was running Vista Ultimate x86 on my other computer. Am I stuck with trying to convert each and every .flv video or is there some other way to solve the problem?

I apologize for my ignorance regarding this matter. Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

    C.B.

I can assure you that FLV's are properly thumbed using the Shark007 software.

Install the Win7codecs + x64Components. (MajorGeeks.com is your best source for up-to-date releases)
Open the 64bit Settings Application and go to the H264 TAB,
set 'Use FFDshow's codec' on the righthand side.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Shark 007. I tried this once but must have missed something. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have similar problem with a twist. I can see thumbnail but I get error when trying to play with WMP. I tried various settings as well. I used Shark's Codec all the time on few computers. But this PC just refused to work with it.

This PC is a fresh install on a new machine with Win 7 x64.

    WMP: Error, close window

    VLC: Plays perfectly.

    MPC: Fine.

I want to be able to play FLV with WMP like I do on other computers with Shark Codecs.

    Thanks.

    Hello Shark,

Yes I have that installed already and yes WMP is the default player. You misunderstood me.

WMP have errors and close when I try to use WMP. But no errors with VLC or MPC.

I want WMP to work with no errors.

    Hello Shark,

    I have a new problem.

First. I formatted my computer. Then Shark Codec works. I am happy.

Later, I installed Microsoft Expressions Web Ultimate - I selected only web expressions but it also installed "Screen Capture encoder codec" then I cant play FLV videos anymore. I got error msg to close WMP.

I uninstalled "screen capture encoder codec" but FLV still will not work. Same error msg to close WMP.

I re-installed shark codec 280 and x64 285 but FLV still will not work.

    Please help.
    Thanks.

I'm sorry to tell you, I do not know what has broken on your system, or how to fix it other than starting off on a clean system and avoid installing software that breaks it. All i would suggest is re-instaling the codecs but you have done that already with no results.

    Hello Shark,

I uninstalled few programs and keep trying FLV.

Then finally I uninstalled "CyberLink PowerDVD 10" and FLV works again.

Maybe you know how to fix with settings? Because I really like PowerDVD

    Thanks.
