Viewing the properties of a video file

When viewing the properties of certain video files, such as .ts, I am not able to see the details of the video file such as audio and video bitrate. Other files such as .avi show fine.
I don't know if it's related but I am also not able to view the file extensions on these same files though I can see the extensions on most others. Folder options show I am set to view hidden folders and to show file extensions. It doesn't appear to be a virus problem as I have checked with a number of virus programs and verified they found none.
    Any ideas?

not familiar with ts do you mean .m2ts?
I don't think the container format is supported by windows.
wmv avi and to a limited extent mp4 and mkv all are.

.ts is a Transport Stream file which is basically an mpeg file.
Many PVR that record HD video via a tuner save to .ts.
    See this for more info:

ah, it's the predecessor of h.264 apparently. Never personally used it. What I said above still applies though. Windows can only name the bitrate for formats it understands properly. Outside of that it can only provide you with total file size and tags.

    indeed

TS is a container format, nothing to do with the codec itself. TS files usually contain MPEG-2 or H.264 videos as these are the formats used in the TV world but may contain other type of videos.

The DVBViewer Recording Properties software allows Windows Explorer to show properties of TS files.

VLC will also give you the video frame rate and resolution plus audio bitrate and mode among other stats of TS container files.

Use mediainfo to find everything about it. MediaInfo just make sure you decline the junk it comes with (gotta make money somehow) if you choose the installer and not the .zip, made mkv life very nice. It lets you see tooltip info on the fly to.

    View video info

Well here's a screenshot of a video that I converted to .ts using Shana Encoder.

See this thread on Shana Encoder: https://www.sevenforums.com/music-pic...ideo-file.html

You can see all of the info that you asked for.

Software used to get video info:

    Moo0 Video Info

Link is a download from Softpedia.

Warning: The installer will offer to install additional software but you can opt out. It's virus free and installs no toolbars or spyware.
