Windows 7: Edited tags not working in itunes

Edited tags not working in itunes

When I edit tags for music files in windows explorer, either right-clicking and going into properties or editing whilst viewing the details, when I import the song into itunes it doesn't show up.

Sometimes it will work, where the album, the year, the genre, artist, and title show up. But sometimes when I upload an entire album 2 or 3 songs wont display the tags correctly. They only show 'artist - song' (which is the name of the file) in the name field in itunes. (It used to only show 'artist - song' when I imported using xp when the files didn't have any info in them except for the file name).

It's really time consuming to have to then re-edit all the details in itunes. Especially as itunes tends to stall when I try to edit properties.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM --> RTM clean install

Hi sweetiecandykim and welcome to the forums.

I haven't had this problem - I don't use iTunes, but have had similar problems in the past. I recommend using Tagscanner. It's a free id3 tag editor. You can do a lot with it, including bulk tagging from online databases. Definately worth a look...

I downloaded that program. It looks good because you can change the file names too and the text to lower/title case etc.
However, I don't really know how to use it and it will be longer to edit tags if I only have a couple that need editing.
I still haven't figured out how to make the tags work in itunes. I put the artist in the 'album artist' field for one album and they imported into itunes smoothly, however I did the same for another album and the album, genre, date, comments field didn't have any info. Also the title field was artist-title.
It worked fine in XP. Except that I used to have to do the comment field a few times because it would put random number and letter there.

I'll try to make this explanation as simple as I can, but this has been driving me nuts. Consider these givens: 1) all my photos are on the D: drive in a folder called "Images", and there are dozens of sub-folders below that. Approximately 40,000 photos. 2) D:\Images has been added to the...

I use iTunes for my primary media manager because I like to get stuff onto my iPhone. So when I have an AVI file of my favorite TV show, I then convert it to mp3 and add to my iTunes library. I look up the various info data for it (title, episode #, etc...) so they all display & organize nice in...
