    Questions About WMP 12

Hello I Use the WMP that comes with built into Windows 7, I assume it's v12, these are my questions:

    1. How to make sure it's v12? there is no menu, so can't use help->about
    2. I use it to listen to music mainly, while I'm listening to music it's on my taskbar, is there a way to put it in the system tray instead? to save space on my taskbar,

    thanks!

    Hello Akramh,

In WMP12, you can press Ctrl+M to see the Menu Bar to then click on Help and About Windows Media Player to see version number.

This tutorial can help show you how to add WMP12 to the taskbar.

Windows Media Player - Taskbar Toolbar

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

thanks brink! +rep for you :)

also , it seems the version is 12.0.7264.0 , which seems linked to the windows 7 build of 7264... so this means WMP is part of the windows 7 OS right? when I looked in the add/remove programs it's not there... just like IE..

EDIT: sorry it seems I still can't rep you, how much rep do we have to spread now to rep the same person again 10 times or something?

Yep, WMP 12 is a part of Windows 7. WMP 12 is in Windows Features under Media Features instead to turn on or off.

If you're not comfortable using the method in that tutorial, then you might consider a Windows Media Player type Gadget instead. I personally would not want to downgrade to WMP11 either just for a taskbar toolbar.

    Windows Live Gallery

That's ok with the rep. I would prefer not to just give others rep points just to give me more. It should only be given to those that earned it. :)

From what I had read and heard WMP 12 will not be included in the final builds of W7. Instead it will be a modified 11 with 12 features.
