    Numbers included in song title

    W7 Home Ed

I have numbers in front of some my music files. Not tracknumbers. The numbers are included in the file name. (03 Sunflower or 01 - Beyond The Sea) etc. My question is, is there anyway to remove the numbers. I can do by renaming each file. Is there any to do this other than renaming one file at a time.
    Thank you

The only time I see this is when I rip an audio CD to the PC. For example, if I rip with Nero (V10) I get the track number such as 01 - Song Title.

The only way I know is to rename each file individually. I just had to do that Wednesday for a CD I ripped to the hard drive.

There are many file renaming utilities out there.

Name It Your Way is a particularly good one. It's free.

If you had a song title like:

    01 - Beyond The Sea.mp3

You could make a "rule" in Name It Your Way to shave off the first 5 characters from the left side of the file name.

That would leave you with Beyond The Sea.mp3.

I wouldn't bother using it for a file or two, but if you had dozens or thousands, it can rename them all in seconds.

After I got replys I remembered that I used a program on my older desktop. I never had any problems in the past while using it. I just downloaded to my new laptop - tested - no problem - did what I wanted (removed the first 3 characters in the file name). I tried Name It Your Way it was very hard to understand and use - did not do what I wanted. Thanks

A rename utility would work (my favourite Lopesoft File Menu Tools) or you could use an id3 tag editor, such as Tagscanner. This would have the advantage of both removing the numbers from the track name, and maintaining correct playback order in any media player (using track number metadata)

Tagscanner has 1 click online automatic tagging (freedb / amazon / gracenote).

I know it is over a year later but wanted to thank R Fernandez for his pointer on Bulk Rename Utility. I had the same task with a couple thousand songs... this free utility just made my life a LOT easier!
