I have VLC player on my computer, it works find but its one more program I could get rid of if I could play my music videos with Windows Media Player.

I've got some CDs which I bought in the 80s and they are in excellent condition.
However, WMP12 won't play them. They play slow and jittery. Ripping is out of the question too.
Newly menufactured CDs are fine. Any ideas?
Is there a good reason why MS don't equip either the media centre or the media player with the ability to play MP4's.
I don't see why they can't play them,and surely it would be in MS's best interest if they could play them.

I have recently installed Win 7 Ultimate
When playing video files in Media Player or Media Center they will hang up periodically a few secs / mins then continue again.
No errors show up in the event logs, except for alot of services entering start and stop state.
I have the latest Win 7...
