How to view all images in a directory and sub directories

I am sorting out some old backups of old machines and I would like to go through and find all the images that are there so I can delete ones I don't need, ones from installed softwares and that.

Is there a program that will show me every image (or just even selected file types so I can do non images too) from all the sub directories from one folder?

    Thanks

Go to the parent folder where all these images are there in subfolders and do a windows search for *.jpg

The search results will give you all the images from all the subfolders in one window. change the view to thumbnails and then you can view and delete from there.

*.jpg can be replaced with any other extension... *.gif, *.bmp, *.tif for images
*.txt, *.doc for documents and so on.

There is a utility called "xplorer2" which is a very good explorer alternative for windows. The paid version has a FLATTEN Folder command, which will do exactly what you want to do.

You can also search on Google for a utility for flattening folders. You may get a free utility to do the same job.

here's a little more detail about how to use irfanview for this...

download it at link in earlier post

find your "top" folder and open one of its images in irfanview.

on the irfanview menu go to options > properties > browsing, then

    1) check "view all files directory"

    1) check "show folders/hidden files when browsing"

This will allow you to browse through the folder using left/right arrow keys and when you get to the last image, irfanview will give you a list of subfolders you can choose next.

On that first image you're viewing decide to keep it or not. To delete it press delete. To move to the next image press the right arrow key. That's it. You will be able to right-arrow through your files quickly, and just press delete on the files you want to delete.
