Which is why I'd mentioned making my "legacy" (i.e. abandoned by the vendor, but perfectly fine to this day) 10-year old v4 or 8-year old v5 setup for ACDSee available to you. Still will, if you want to try it. PM me is so.
Anyway, if you're satisfied with IrfanView, many people certainly use it quite happily.

Yes, absolutely, my old v4 and v5 products will absolutely work on XP, as they once did for me.
I would email you today with the retrieval/installation details but the power supply in my "email desktop machine" died yesterday. The replacement PSU is arriving today sometime, and once I get the machine back in service I will send you the instructions.
Note that ACDSee has come through many versions since this thread was last active in 2011. In fact they're now up to "version 11" which is the 2018 Pro product (which I currently use on my Win7 and Win10 systems), and even 2019 editions (but I don't think it's really a new "version").
I actually have both v4 and 2018 Pro installed on my Win7/10 systems and still use v4 as my default JPG image viewer that gets launched for viewing email attachments, etc., specifically because it being so "lean and mean" it launches almost instantly. V5 is the essentially same speedy animal, they removed the nonsense Lura plugins (which should be UN-CHECKED during v4 installation) and they added some minor customization and user interface improvements while at the same time "breaking" (to my way of thinking) how their Explorer Tree pane works (which always returns to the top-level sub-folder of the current expansion, rather than remaining positioned exactly at the current sub-folder you last worked on). I complained but they never really fixed this in an upgraded release of v5, although they did correct this in later versions. Nevertheless I do not use v5 myself specifically for this reason, although I do install it for friends and family who don't have the same sub-folder considerations I do.
These latest ACDSee versions won't run on WinXP but if you have need or desire to buy or try any of their array of products if you also have a Win7/8/10 system, they're on special "year-end sale" prices right now through January 3.

I remember ACDsee from my college days 10 years ago, might have been v4 or 5 at the time and this will absolutely do for me.
I´m actually looking for something intuivively lean to use on my old system with split screen capability for easy image comparison and selection.
I´ve also looked into the fastone mentioned above which I liked.
It will be fun to compare the two.
So I´d appreciate if you could send me a legacy ACDsee v4 or 5 with your instructions.
No need to hurry: I´m on skiing holidays until January 6th - and hope to be back with some amazing blue sky champagne powder pics to be sorted out.
