Windows 7 Photo viewer is not as good as the XP version

I've tried the Photo viewer in Windows 7 and it is not a patch on the XP photo viewer for edit and printing selection.
In XP I could select those photos I wished to print by using the select in the overal display of thumbnails which appears when PRINT is selected. These can be random from anywhere in the list.
In windows 7 everything is harder. I can only print a selection by going back, manually, to the files and then renaming the photos so they are in order.
It is a pain in the ****.
Does anyone know of a viewer which gives the flexibility of the old XP viewer, in Windows 7?
    Thanks,

irfanview has already been suggested, although it is pretty good. I used Google picasa for a while too. It came with a full image editor but the image viewer can be used standalone (I just deleted the editor, kept the viewer where it was)

Thanks for your input, however both these viewers do not allow for a selection of thumbnails for a single printing if they are not in order.

Make a request for that feature on IrfanViews Forums. He updates the software frequently.

Here is another viewer to try: Alternate Tools - Alternate Pic View

I have never used it so let us know how it works.

    Many thanks but no luck.

    Thanks WindowsStar for your help.
I still have XP on my LapTop and will go back to using the photo viewer on that.

If the win vista / seven pic viewer is good for you then you can use this for animated gifs
    gifview.exe
Set This as the default program to view gif images. It is written in GDI+, so you can expect the same level functionality as the onw in win XP. As it was written by me, I can taylor it to suit your needs. Source available on request
Thank you so very much, Corgano!!! You've solved a very frustrating and irritating problem for me (and I'm sure many others!).

Your viewer is simple, as fast as Microsoft Photo Viewer to load, and enables scrolling through other animated .gif images in the same folder. Perfect. Another BIG THANK-YOU!!!!!
