RPC server is unavailable while opening Windows Media Player

When I try to play video clips, using
    Windows Media Player,it stops
    responding.When I click on it,a message
    appears saying:

    "The application is not responding.The
program may respond again if you wait.Do
you want to end this process?"
    I eventually end the program,and get a
    new error message:
    "Windows Media Player has stopped
working.A problem caused the program to
    stop working correctly.Windows will close
the program and notify you if a solution
    is available."
    Finally,i hit "Close program",and a
    message appears:
    "RPC server is unavailable.",continuing
with the path to the video clip I have
    tried to play.
In the Event Viewer, incident is logged as

Eventual and seems the only possible solution-reinstalled system.
