    I always use Paint Shop Pro and I love it... you can open and edit PS files too...

    paint.net is good and also GIMP which I use on linux and it does a good job.

    Programs like this can be fun to use, and do not require a huge learning curve. Not in the same class as paint.net or photoshop. The price is right.

    Set a restore point, install, play. Evaluate. Restore system or continue using.

    Another vote for paintshop pro.
    (Currently use V8)

    Its much less overbearing that photoshop.. Plus there is one feature that keeps me from using photoshop (I have it..but rarely use it).
    And that is...UN-ERASING VIA RIGHT MOUSE CLICK. Hold down the right mouse button and you can un-erase vs having to ctrl-z and alt+ctrl+z in photo shop. (Unless of course you can set it to act this way in PS..but I havent found it)
    This lil interface feature alone makes life soooo much easier.
