Sorry John, I think you understand it right, but wrote it wrong.
The moving part *wouldn't* be a problem, providing it's on the same partition.
That was exactly my point.

With moving to another folder on the same partition, only the MFT entry is changed.
The data stays where it is, so the free space of the partition is not an issue.
You notice it, because the moving is almost instant, even when it's huge amounts of data.

The copying it back on the same partition *would* be the problem.

I think that is what you meant to say, right?
