TOTALLY FREE video maker for Windows 7 (apart from Movie Maker)

    Hi guys,

I need an honest to goodness FREE video maker for Windows 7 with features that are way better than Movie Maker (MM).

I've had the following problems with the many applications I've downloaded:

    1. hijacked my browsers
    2. output vid - has watermarks OR only 30 seconds is free OR pay to download file
    3. features are way simpler than MM
    4. free for only a specified amount of time

Can't wait to hear your suggestions. I'm tired of getting all these fakers. Thank you.

Try DVDVideoSoft. It is free and has many tools.

    hi shashikumarbhat,

thank you very much for your suggestion. in the future, i'm sure i will find something in DVDVideoSoft. but for now, i can't find anything that will enable me to make a video and not simply edit existing videos and/or pictures.

What kind of 'video making' did you have in mind. A screen capture ?? Or what would be the source of your videos.

    hi whs,

something movie maker-ish in that will allow me to use photos, videos and music. of course, nothing on the pro level because those are not free. i will be making a christmas family video.

    thank you.

For that purpose I would use PowerPoint - you can make all kinds of very fancy animations. But if you do not have the Office package (sells for $89 now), Windows Live Movie Maker is your best bet. Make sure you use the Live MM.

Here are a couple of PowerPoint shows (turn the speakers on) I made with pictures only. But you can mix videos into it.

Note that these are screen captured PP 2007 shows. In PowerPoint 2010 you can convert them directly to videos which gives you a more fluent quality.

wow! the vimeo video was nice. the youtube one was private though. anyway, thanks very much for your suggestions. i will give power point a second look. i used it for work before and didn't experiment a lot with it.

    cheers,

If you have any questions on PP, post back. I do not have all the answers, but maybe a few.
