WMP not playing nice with Win 7?

Sometimes when I play video or music with Windows media player I have seen " server execution failed". If I use VLC I never see this problem.

Also when WMP is updating Win 7 seems to slightly hang or become slow.

Otherwise I have no problem with Win 7.

    Should I just dump WMP?

I turned off WMP and rebooted. Then turned on WMP and rebooted. This reinstalls WMP. So far no error message.

I do similar. I uninstall it and reinstall and it 'fixes' it.

IT is the single most frustrating experience with the 'windows 7 experience'

I also have managed to 'fix' it by repeatably killing the process and or process tree in task manager.

Evenutally it will settle down and stop eating up 50 to 80 percent of the CPU doing some unknown background
    task .

If I could find a decent replacement for using my TV tuner (hauppage) I'd totally remove WMC . Not cause it does a poor job of being a TV viewer but because it is a poorly behaved application that trashes the system performance here and I've yet to find out why.

For watching Vids I've always used VLC.. for many years now.
