Why does Microsoft's media player rule?
Is it just me or did they get that one right? C'mon VLC fan boys, where's the awesome SRS that Microsoft has? Can you re-produce that?....didn't think so....

VLC supports more codecs out of the box than madia player. Try playing an flv file on media player without any third party codecs installed.
I'm one who feels WMP drools, not rules. VLC runs circles around the clunky P.O.S. although for music, I use Media Monkey both to manage the music and to play it.
I dropped the K-Lite pack onto my machine, and now there's almost nothing that WMP won't play.
I've heard of some having issues with K-Lite, but I never have (touch wood).
Wenda.
That's your opinion.
IMO, it's a piece of junk.
WMP12 trashed 25% of my mp3 collection when I tested it back in 2009.
I've used K-Lite (with MPC-HC) for ~5 years without any problems.
I use VLC for any video files that MPC-HC won't play (which is rarely).
I mainly use VLC for hardsubbing.
Hi there
Just choose what you like and BE GREATFUL there's competition out there. I like VLC as it plays everything (audio and video) that I've wanted and I like the small uncluttered interface - but if WMC is your thing or even WMP then use it.
Mercedes, Audio or BMW -- you HAVE a choice -- all those 3 makes have features some like while others will hate.
I'm surprised I even bothered to reply to the thread -- it's 100% unimportant what you use so long as IT WORKS and is FIT FOR PURPOSE.
Probably VLC plays more codecs though straight out of the box while with WMC / WMV you have to add stuff but that's YOUR choice.
Cheers

Me personally, I don't install anything extra unless Windows can't do it natively. If it won't play in MP then I start looking for codec packs. If that doesn't cut it then I look at alternatives like VLC. Even then I'll have MP set as the default player for my music etc.
Windows Media Player has a history of not being reliable. I always use Media Player Classic, which has an abundance of codecs, including being able to play .flv extensions.
I use both, just wish vlm had a better skin, but then I've never bothered to look for one, what would be the point, right ?
