I've been using MPC a lot for a long time. VLC when MPC cannot play some of the video files but rarely.

    WMP for playing music only.

I use VLC for video, Winamp for audio, and WMP12 is banished to the sidelines.
IMO WMP10 in XP worked great. MS screwed up bad with 11 and got even worse with 12.

winamp for playing music and splash player for movies.

My audio choices/preferences match yours. :)

I too think that WMP 10 was excellent.

    I never used WMP 11.
It refused to allow me to demonstrate a browser add-on, on my friends Vista laptop.

Ironically, I use a modified "WMP 11" skin on Winamp. :)

In addition to the mp3 problem WMP 12 created for me, (IMO) it has an awful GUI and navigation.
When I was testing it, I always seemed to be in the wrong window.

Winamp also has a nice built-in format converter.

    That's the one.
Although I'm using the ClassicPro version (the Library tabs look slightly different).

I've given mine a coloured beat meter. :)

it may be the size of the window i have that makes the tabs look smaller.
its the classic pro skin too. cMP11B

how did you get the colored meter. and have you seen the
winamp file icons by this chap.

there is a nice red one. you need the essentials pack to use the file icons

its really handy ,you can have a continue where you last stopped winamp.

I have always proffered WMP. VLC is good and includes it's codecs, but I use shark007 codec pack, and WMP plays anything I try.

i used to use wmp, until it gave me messages saying it couldnt play a track it had played before(mp3)
all other players would play them so i switched,
plus it was a pain in the ass freezing all the while when first opened as my folders were /are huge.
