VLC media player query

Am trying to play a MPG via VLC player. Other MPG's seem to play just fine although they are of lower resolution. The MP4 of the same file plays just fine. Have checked the codec's and they all seem to be in place.

Attached file info for both the MP4 & MPG. Both converted using TMPGenc.

Any input/advice appreciated

Windows 7 32 bit

I suspect the issue is the .mpg file has avc video with .mp2 audio. Not a common combination. Try converting the audio to ac3. There are many fast freeware converters that can convert audio only keeping the video stream. It takes only a few minutes to run the video through and try it. See for tons of these.
