Conflict: WMP 12 loads Roxio NXT Common OGG codec dsfOggDemux2.dll

WMP 12 Version 18150 worked fine until I installed Roxio NXT Pro. After that I get the STOPPED WORKING message on all MOVIE CLIP files. Still works for audio. I believe my default codec pack is Xiph.org current version. In the WER I found that WMP 12 instead loads the above Roxio dll (#121 in the list) and two others in the Roxio Common folder (presumably instead of its own newer versions). Corel WinDVD and Windows Media Center will still play my MPEG-1 files. Windows Media features uninstall and reinstall did not fix (WMP and WMC always install / uninstall together).

If I rename this one problem Roxio OGG codec, WMP 12 video playback will work again (but this breaks Roxio Media Manager 14 of course). The only feature I prefer with MM14 is the ability to skip to the end of a video file (not wrap to the beginning) and do fast reverse playback from there. So any player that does this (or supporting codec) would also be a solution. Roxio MM (used to) load video files much quicker.

Tried reading MS KB on DLL loading order and found it overly complex.

FWIW: Roxio MM14 is very unstable on my system. But other programs like Roxio Video Capture work fine. Did not have any problems with Roxio Creator 2009 (XP), 2010 (XP), 2011 (Win 7). My 2011 USB capture device failed forcing my upgrade and got the newer USB device as freebie in package deal. New one incompatible with Creator 2011 (of course).

System: HP Pavilion dv7t-6100 CTO Quad Edition w Win 7 Ultimate. Fully scanned (sfc, NIS, MSE, Malwarebytes, etc) and updated HP drivers and Windows Update. Clean reports all. Roxio Forum guru wants me to reformat my C: drive

    Thanks,

    More information:
If I set Windows Media Player (WMP) 12 to be the “default program” (open whenever you double click on a video file) it crashes with the Roxio DLL conflict error!
But double-click to open DOES WORK, if the WMP12 program is already up and running! Trouble is if I double-click to open the video file then closing the video file closes the program down also. Then I forget I have to START the program first before it will work again! Hypothesis: If I start the program first it loads the correct codecs to play these files. If I don’t start it first it somehow finds and uses the Roxio codecs and those won’t work within WMP.
Aha! It is the low res Roxio captured MPEG-1 files that are the problem! Double click to open works with hi-res MPEG-2 files (like theJeff Beck concert, that I got off the DVRs, etc). I noticed that the WMP list of loaded codecs did not include one specifically for MPEG-1 files (but Roxio has to have one to capture these off of the DVR in the first place). Hence the crash when double clicking to open those with WMP – the video file must contain a default setting “use this codec (Roxio) if you don’t have one of your own loaded” – hence the crash due to some incompatibility with the Roxio codec and others WMP loads itself or doesn’t load because one or more are not specifically flagged to handle MPEG-1 files (even though they could when starting the program first – it loads everything it has).
None of this explains theRoxio Media Player 14 instability and crashing unpredictably on just about everything. So my support ticket remains valid.
“Open with” on Jeff Beck video with MM14 just opens the program to its last default folder – I have to navigate to the Jeff Beck video folder which it will then open and play it just fine!
