Window 7 Professional is supposed to include media player as well as media center. Is yours' missing?
Which one is right for you? - Microsoft Windows
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...s-Media-Player
i have the n version witch does not include media player or ie but i need media player!!!
Look here: Download Windows Media Player, Windows Media Player 12 Download
Download Shark007 Codecs too: http://shark007.net/
I have the EXACT same problem....
I am being told by Microsoft that you can NOT add Media Player 12 to "N" versions of Windows 7...
The download that Jacee suggested will not work on my WIndows 7 Professional N version..
I am hoping Microsoft will let me "upgrade" to Windows Professional normal version for free. I do not want to to a complete re-install though.
sigh...
If you have the proof of purchase and you either approach Microsoft in Europe or your actual supplier, You may be able to change your version based on what is a genuine error on your part.
I doubt however that this will be a simple download of the media components as I believe that the "N" restrictions are hard coded.
As another option, that may work, is if you can source an upgrade copy of the Standard install and perform an in-place upgrade you may be able to add things that way but the hard coding may prevent this - only Microsoft will be able to give you a definitive answer.
Thanks for that!
I bought it through the Microsoft Store in the UK so I will give them a call tmw and see what they say.
My guess is there are a few other people out there in the same position. If I find a solution I will post it.

I would probably make a big thing about the confusion caused by the EU and the non IE version and that you thought that the N version was the version you were expected to purchase
I have the same problem and have been messing with it for 3 days. It all seems related to the fact that you cannot install Windows Media Foundation (which contains the required codecs to play WMV and WMA and so on).
This morning I found the following:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...c-a6cef9b414c4
It was just released yesterday. I can only assume that a whole lot of people were complaining.
I myself just wanted to have a system without WMP interfering with everything, not a windows that is crippled by removing support for pretty much any media format except for WAVs....
Edit: I suppose it will work, am still downloading it myself, but because this forum/topic helped me on my quest I though I'd share
