Winamp, WMP or any other media software freezes at random events

    Hi there.

    Problem:

Winamp or Windows Media Player or any other audio software freezes at random events.

    How the problem occurs:

I will be playing audio through winamp just fine from first playback. The problem occurs after I decide I would like to STOP the song that is playing and open another application. After I've finished with that application and return back to winamp to hit PLAY the song won't playback. The song will simply sit there looking like it is about to play but no response. Please NOTE that this also occurs in Windows Media Player and i-Tunes.

A temporary fix to the immediate problem:

Time being all I have to do is restart the computer.

    What have I done?

I have formatted the PC 3 times. Done countless re-installations and to no avail. I used to think there maybe a problem which maybe my Mbox2 Pro. However drivers are installed and the device is working perfectly and runs very smoothly in my Digital Audio Workstation.

If anyone has any ideas to what this problem may be I would be so HAPPY to hear it!!!

Question--are the files you are trying to play stored on another computer / network location? I had a similar problem with an older version of Winamp while streaming to my laptop from my media server. I updated Winamp and also changed my mapped drive to the IP address of the server instead of the name and seemed to correct the issues I was having.
