    Really Long Upload Time...

I have a question. I'm not sure if it's a problem of some sort, but I can't help notice that it takes a really long time when I upload videos to Youtube. It took almost 12 hours to upload a 5.5 minute video. It took around 7 hours to upload a 4 minute video. Is this normal?

I supposedly have high speed internet. I made my videos using "Power Director 7", which produced an .avi file that I then uploaded from my computer. I also uploaded a 1 minute raw video from .mov without using Power Director or any editing software. That video took around 40 minutes to upload.

All of the videos turned out fine after they uploaded. I'm just wondering if it should take so long, if I'm doing something wrong or if it's the speed of my internet?

Hiya ... what was the file size you uploaded ? Remember You tube converts your video (which can take quite a bit of time) to a compatible format that is viewable by all. I use Super c to compress my videos before uploading, although it does loose a bit of quality it saves massively on file size

I new at videos and uploading, but I think the file size of the 5.5 minute video is 1.10 GB and the 4 minute video is 865 MB. That's what it shows when I mouse over the thumbnail of the video stored on my computer anyway.

There's your problem pal 1.10Gb is a really large file most proberly full HD etc. Although you may have a fast internet speed you will most proberly find that this is your download speed and not upload.... goto a site like Speedtest.net - Global Broadband Speed Test to check what upload speeds you might achieve. I have a pretty crap connection which gives me (on a good day) 12 mbps download but I only get 1 mbps upload (on a really excellent day) so if you do the maths you can see how long a 1.10Gb file would take and that's not including the youtube conversion time

@ pooman - just done the math using your speeds :

    1 byte = 8 bits so

    1.1GB * 1024 * 8 = 9011 mbits

    1 hour = 3600 secs

    9011/3600 = 2.5 hours (for 1 mbps up connection)

I'm on BT infinity - 65 down, 18 up - makes a big diff with YouTube uploads !
