I don't know of a free program. There may be something around and a google search may turn up something.

This forum has a comprehensive list of available free programs. Look this over. CLICK ME

I have a recording studio and for my CD's, I use "Discus" but it is not a free program. There is a demo version that can be downloaded HERE The Nero suite of burning programs have a program to create CD labels and jewel case inserts. I use an Epson that has the capability to print labels on ink jet printable CD/DVD's. Paper CD/DVD labels are outdated and most CD/DVD players warn against using paper labels as they can flake and come off and damage CD/DVD player mechanisms.

I use the paid version (bought it for $10.00), but the free version will do what you want.

As Fireberd said, use this ONLY to make case covers and side labels for cases.

NEVER put a piece of paper on your dvds - they will destroy them.

I also use the Epson 280 to print directly on dvds, cds.

Nero Cover Designer is available for free :)
Official Nero Downloads | Free Software Trials and Updates
Scroll down to the bottom left and look under Nero Free Applications.
This used to be part of the Nero Suite and when I used it, worked very well.

I would welcome other contributors thoughts on the DVD-Cover Printmaster, designed for this very purpose. I have it installed on my old XP machine and it has served me very well in the past. I have tried to download it recently, for my Win7 machine, but none of the sites seem to carry a version that has printers options in the menu (as the old one did). It's a very simple and light program, but it does the job of printing CD/DVD case inserts beautifully, and can be fully customized.

CDBurner XP Pro is a freeware CD burning program that will also create CD/DVD covers (either regular or slim case). I've been using it for years to turn photos of vinyl record covers into CD case inserts.

That looks like a nice little program. I'm still using RecordNow! would you believe? I might give it a try, on your recommendation, although I have read that it's now bundled with OpenCandy, so if you're not vigilant when downloading, you could be swamped with PUP's.

I think there's an option to exclude OpenCandy from the download (or during the installation). If you still don't trust the installer, try running it sandboxed. (using sandboxie). Once the installer is finished running, you can explore the sandbox, find the actual CDBurner installer and copy it out of the sandbox. (then, just delete the sandbox, which will delete all the other junk it tried to install). I always do this with installers I don't trust.

P.S. I just checked their download page. In tiny text, under the "Download Latest Version" there's a "more download options" link. Click that, and you'll see a specific download link that does NOT include OpenCandy.
