Power Director Keeps Crashing
I purchased my computer new in June of 2010. It's an HP Compaq. Anyway, it came with quite a few programs/packages already installed and one of them is Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe. I recently bought a camcorder and intended on making some videos, so, I was looking for a way to edit them. I thought that before downloading editing software, I would look through my computer to see if there was already something that I could use. To my surprise, I found Power Director 7. ( There are actually quite a few programs in the start up menu that I have still never used.) Apparently it is a free version, there is another window that prompts me to buy it.
The first time that I used Power Director 7 I had no problem. However, I did find that I couldn't import any of the video clips that I had uploaded from my camcorder. Power Director couldn't even find them in my computer. It was able to import still photos that came from the camcorder. The still photos are jpg. It turns out that the video clips from the camcorder are .mov and Power Director 7, or at least this version, won't recognize them.
So, using Power Director, I made a couple of slideshow type "videos" from the still photos, added a music track, kept a copy of the file and uploaded the video to Youtube. By the time I was making the second video, Power Director had already started crashing, freezing up, not responding and seemed to be getting progressively worse. I would lose my work and have to go back and start over again. I finally did manage to edit and make my video.
Meanwhile, I still wanted to import the video clips from my camcorder into Power Director, so that I could edit them and produce another video. I went online to find a video converter and ended up downloading Format Factory. I tried converting the .mov clips to .avi and it seemed to work fine. When I viewed the converted clip I had good quality full screen video and good quality audio. However, when I imported the clip into Power Director 7, the video was no longer full screen, but instead was just a smaller picture in the center of the screen. Also, the audio was "breaking up".
I decided to try converting the .mov camcorder video to .wmv. This time, when I imported the clips into Power Director, I had full screen video and the audio quality seemed good too, except that there was a horrible noise in the last couple of seconds of the clip, a kind of a loud, broken hum. This noise appears to be a problem with the conversion, because I went back and played the converted clip and the same noise was there at the end of the clip too.
Needless to say that at this point I'm starting to get frustrated, so again using Format Factory, I tried converting an .mov clip to .mp4. I played the converted clip and all seemed well. So, I imported the .mp4 clip into Power Director. I was able to play the clip and everything appeared to be fine. I was also satisfied with video and audio quality. Finally, I thought, I can make my video! I imported some still photos (.jpg) that I wanted to use along with the video clips. So far, so good, but when I went back to import another video clip, Power Director crashed.
I tried again. I imported a video clip, but when I tried to import a second clip, Power Director crashed again. I tried again with the same results. I can import the first clip, but when I try to import a second clip, or try to do anything else for that matter, it crashes. I keep getting a little window that basically says " The program has stopped working", "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" and "the program is not responding".
Thanks in advance
