    Playing Video_TS files

I have quite a few DVDs on a data drive ripped into Video_TS folders. All of them played fine in XP...in either Windows Media Player, Nero (6) Showtime, or PowerDVD (v5). Whatever program I used, the DVDs played fine.

Enter Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

WMC chokes completely on these files...*sometimes* playing the audio track of one, but normally just choking hard. WMP plays some of them...but will not play others.

As I said, under XP, WMP played them all...as did PowerDVD and Nero Showtime.

I tried installing the "full" version of the K-Lite codec pack, but the situation did not seem to change in any way. I wonder...did WMP support change that much...or was I getting codecs that I need now from either Nero Showtime or PowerDVD when I was using XP? Hmmm.

I understand that I could rip as ISO or covert to other formats, but that's not the kind of help I am looking for here. I am wondering if someone knows how to get either (or preferably both) WMC or WMP player to work with such Video_TS files. I can play them now using Media Player Classic from K-Lite...but I really prefer the interfaces of WMP and WMC.

    Anyway...any (non-conversion) advice/insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Install PowerDVD even if you don't intend to use it. May help a lot. Let us know how it goes.

Yes...probably good advice...thanks. Unfortunately, I have old versions of PowerDVD and Nero. The cost of the Nero upgrade alone is 50 beans...and there is no upgrade path from my version of PowerDVD to a current version...and the retail cost of PowerDVD is more expensive than the Nero upgrade.

Has anyone installed PowerDVD 5 on Win 7?

    UPDATE:

    I just found this thread:

Making WMC "see" Video_ts.ifo file types

And realized that I had been trying to play my DVD in WMC by using the "Video" functionality. I read the thread above and realized that I was using WMC the wrong way...so I tried playing the DVD through the "Movies" section in WMC...and it worked fine. Still though, the same DVD will not play in WMP...and it did in XP...so I am still open to ideas/comments. Thanks!
