Images seem to be corrupted on Compact Flash disk

My father took some vaca photos on his Nikon D70S. The photos are on a Sandisk compact flash card 2GB.

Many of the pics are labeled with a .JQG extension instead of .JPG. An example is: DRC^0026.JQG

Here is a message I get when I try to copy the folder to my Desktop..

An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I've tried renaming the files as .jpg, but no effect.

Are the photos lost or can they be recovered?

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
When you renamed the files did you remove or replace the "^" symbol with . or - ?

My solution is I used a program called remo recover to recover the pics from my compact disk card. It is a file recovery program. You have to pay to recover media files though.
