I need help to download music

Could you please direct me to some web sites where I can stream as well as download free music, other than Youtube? I am particularly interested in Old Favorites.

    Thank you

    Hmmmm............"old favorites".

Meaning 2008, 1988, or 1938? Madonna or Benny Goodman?

I don't think you'll get much help on download sites due to the surrounding legal issues. As far as I know, most of the action is on blogs.

Streaming--I think that's what Pandora and similar sites do. The problem with them is noted in the following quote from Pandora itself:

"While each Pandora station will learn what you like and don't like on that station based on your feedback (thumbs up and thumbs down), it's never possible to predict exactly which song will play next. That's the way we've designed it!".

Which means that if you like certain artists and styles, it's only a matter of time before you hear something that makes you puke. You don't have complete control. If you like Ella Fitzgerald and give her a thumbs up, you are still going to hear Whitney Houston or Celine Dion sooner or later. And become violently ill. Pandora's learning algorithms aren't sophisticated enough to account for individual taste and I don't see how they could ever be. Even if you love Ella, there's probably some of her recordings you'd prefer never to hear again.

Which is why I play back only stuff from my own hard drive, all hand-chosen songs.

Most Definitely Benny Goodman and why not Victor Sylvester!

Unfortunately, the experience is too familiar, simultaneous with the irresistible urge to climb the nearest wall!
Happy listening from your hard drive. You wouldn't have any of those in OneDrive or some such place, would you?

    Nothing is ever "free"

But theres a couple i know of that will allow you to stream or download what you want.

There used to be Zune, which is now Xbox music. Im not sure if its still around, but they had a service that was $15.00 a month and you could stream, download all the music you wanted. So long as your subscription was active.
Cancel the subscription and anything you downloaded became useless though.

If you are a Amazon Prime member, they have Prime Music now. Like Netflix, but for Music.
But thats $99 a year. but you get other perks too. Video (like Netflix) free books etc.

Those are the only ones I know of that allow access to lots of music for just a subscription price and have the ability to get exactly what you want. Most you have to buy upfront or its a random thing.

Thank you, but I live in Canada and I am too far away to access any of their FM broadcasts. It's a pity because they look good.

    Best regards,

    Melita:

Thrash is right. All you need is an Internet connection.

You can search through iheart's stations and hope to find one to your taste.

    Shortcomings are:

1: You are still subject to whatever playlist the given station might have. There are some stations that might be pretty close to "old favorites"---mostly pre 1970 or pre 1960 stuff for instance. You'd just have to spend time searching and auditioning what's available on iHeart.

2: Most stations aren't on iHeart. In a city the size of Montreal that might have 20 radio stations, you might find only 6 or 8 of them on iHeart.

I can think of some other ideas:

1: many radio stations allow you to listen directly from their website, without using iHeart. If you hear about an "old favorites" station, see if they have a web site that allows you to listen live directly, through your computer.

2: investigate blogspot.com using Google and the name of some of your favorite artists. That should lead to something worthwhile.

3: investigate Windows Media Guide | Internet Radio

4: investigate TuneIn: Listen to Online Radio, Music and Talk Stations
