No problem, if you wanna give them a try go for it and I hope it works for you. Feel free to post back your experience with it. As for recommendations, I don't have any others than the divx site I posted earlier. It wasn't my favorite but it worked.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioning Daum Potplayer. Switched to it from VLC a few months back, because I was getting tired of skinning VLC to look decent with all the rest of the UI tweaks I'm throwing at my OS.

I agree with Gornot concerning Daum Potplayer which I find more to my liking than VLC as well as the same author previous player KMPlayer which many people also seem to prefer over other players

I have been grown up (not kidding) with MPC-HC installed in my (parent’s) PC, and I don’t even bother to download some alternatives since it plays everything I throw at it. But as I had a crush on HD movies, and also as the developers of MPC said farewell in their release last year, I started looking for MKV players that are stable and regularly updated. I am a minimalist so I tried players that look simple in design just so they play mkv, hevc…here are what I found: KMP, JetVideo and 5KPlayer. KMPlayer didn’t play H.264/H.265, otherwise it’s handy for mainstream files. If you want to add tags and edit them, JetVideo is what you need, and if you also want to watch 3D, try 5KPlayer.
