    WMP Issue

My WMP has an issue I just can't seem to resolve. Have tried numerous solutions with zero success. Can no longer drag and drop or copy and paste album art in the player. No matter what I do it give me an error message that I can't while the song is in use even when nothing is playing!!!
Have gone into file properties, used the WMP repair tool and reloaded player and library and even gone as far as a system restore and still the same problem comes up! Very frustrating since I like the simplicity of the player and rely on it! Out of ideas and am hoping too find a simple fix or explanation!

Welcome to the forums nitwit56. Try these steps

Ensure that Windows Media Player is closed

Click Start and type services in the search box. Click on Services.

Locate Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, select it and click on Stop the service.

Click Start and type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player\ in the Search box and hit Enter.

Select all the files in the folder and delete them.

Go back to the Services window and Start the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.

Start Windows Media Player it will start automatically rebuilding your media libraries.

I have already reloaded the Player new and reloaded my music files from scratch and ended up with the same nagging problem! Grrrr! Player works fine in every respect except editing the artwork on the albums!!!

Let me dig around, may be a permissions issue. Have you tried this already?

Fix Windows Media Player video, and other media or library issues

A new clue! I took one of my files and burnt it to a CD and then deleted the file from my player and computer and then re-ripped it in as new music. Guess what, I was then able to copy and paste a pic on the new album with no problem!!!!! DEfintiely a very very tedious, expensive and time consuming process to convert the mass of my albums to hard copy cd's and re-rip the entire collection but so far this is the only solution I found that works!

There has to be an easier way. Hopefully someone with another idea will post soon.

Try 'correcting' the ID tags in your music library
WMP 12 does not recognize ID3 Tags

Utilities referenced in the above thread:
    jaikoz
id3-tagit - this was the only one that worked for the thread starter above
    mp3tag

Lifehacker also list the 'best tag' utilities and adds
    MusicBranz Picard
    foobar
-> these are really players with tagging features.
-> foobar was mentioned in a forum as a good scan and fix.

I've only used MP3Tag and it works well - the others you'll have to research and investigate.

Backup your data and then see if any re-tagging helps. You'll have to do the entire music library, but the utilities can scan and fix. You won't have to rip the CDs.

I hope this works for you.

I might suggest a simple sfc and chkdsk to rule out any problems with the filing system

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
