    Help with CD and DVD's

Hi. I am unable to play my cd's and dvd's on my window 7 computer. I can burn a disc, but when I try to play the disc it will not play for me unless I open media center. However, the cd's will play in my car, and in other peoples computers.

I have had this checked out several times, but I still cannot play the cd's and dvd's on my computer even though I am told that everything is ok.

    Any suggestions? Appreciate the help.

How did they open normally? File association problem perhaps?

Would this help? How to (re)associate audio/video files with Windows Media Player 12?

Hi. I would put the cd and the dvd in my cd driver. I tried the item you suggested, but I was confused with as to what was being talked about. I also did something really dumb. I downloaded Tweak Bit Fix My PC. Well I got far enough and it said ...Severe...Missing Software and Severe...System Issue. I removed the download immediately.

I have called and talked to different people and I thought the problem was resolved, but no such luck. I bought this computer in April 2015 and I am beginning to think that this is a reconditioned computer. It is a Window 7 Professional.

Oh by the way I don't know what file association problem is. Sorry and thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I would probably do a system restore to before you used the fix it thing :/
I'll guess that the link GoKay posted you were to use the Default file type restore tutorial for cd/ dvd
Default Programs - Set a Program's Default Associations
Also reset autoplay by using Option 1 reg file to Enable autoplay,
    AutoPlay - Enable or Disable

    No problem buddy :)

I suppose if there's no joy still after system restore to an earlier time and the other 2 tutorial resets,

We should get a look at some of the programs list and startup items to see what the user has installed,
Some pre-installed junkware might be getting in the way of normal operation,

So Carol if you would be so kind to post some screen shots,
Please hit the Windows logo key on your keyboard and type in the search box
    uninstall a program
Click on the suggestion on the top
Please take some screen shots of the list
On the top right next to the "?" question mark there's a down arrow to switch the page view
    Choose from the options List
You can probably get all of them on 1 screen shot,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here if you need assistance :)
    Cheers.

    cd and dvd

Well, I found that my audio cd, dvd movie and audio files are checked to play using Windows Media Player. Now what do I do. There is a box to check that says use auto play for all media and devices. Am I supposed to check this or? I apologize. I just don't want to screw up anything by doing what I am not supposed to do. Thank you.

Yes, unless you check that, you will have to manually load them in Media Player.

So go ahead and check it, then re-insert a CD.

    cd and dvd

Well I checked the box to use auto play for all media and devices. I just put a cd in and it did play. I also put in a cd and a dvd that I burned on my own and they worked. Great suggestion from both of you. I have no idea why the box was not checked. Well, it is working now and that is all that counts. Once again thank you both.
