Windows 7: WLMM won't recognize files

WLMM won't recognize files

I have several .MOD files which come from a JVC Everio video camera. I was successfully able to import them into Windows Live Movie Maker (WLMM) previously, however I installled Nero 9 and am no longer able to use them. They open correctly in Windows Media Player and in Windows Live Picture Gallery. So it doesn't make sense that the codecs are misplaced, etc. Especially since it opens in Windows Live Picture Gallery!!!

Also, when I do the import into WLMM, I get sound only, but no video. This is very perplexing - any ideas?
