3rd Party Twain-Type Drivers for Windows 7 (HP issues)

I'll keep this as short and to the point as I can.

    System: Windows 7 Home, 64b, 8g ram, 500g HD
    Printer: HP Photosmart Prem C410

HP just can't seem to make a stable piece of software. Their custom Twain Drivers/Software freezes often.

Is there a 3rd party software that can talk to HP printers and give me the "high bit depth" options I need to scan well?

The WIA driver works, but only low quality scans.

I've searched up and down the Net, but clearly I'm not using the correct search terms. I CAN'T be the only person with this issue.

    Any assistance appreciated.

    Thank you

What letter is at the end of C410, like abcde?

You have probably tried these but just to make sure, you have used this http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwa..._140_222-4.exe (full drivers) and this http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwa...nu_140_222.exe (basic drivers)? Also are you just trying to scan documents or photos, and do you use any software like Picasa to manage them if you do?

I believe I'm using the full HP driver set as it is accompanied by their unstable scanner setting, cropping, suite.

I would like a non-HP driver set that lets me utilize the the high bit depth scanning feature of that scanner, which the built in Windows driver does not. The Windows driver doesn't crash when doing high DPI scans though.

    I'm scannig photos, not documents.

To your last question, I don't use software to manage my photo/scan collections. I try to minimize unnecessary software. I can do that myself.

    Thanks. :)

That is a feature of the software from hp so you would need to keep those drivers but use software that supports scanning at high bit depth then. Might want to give this a shot. NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner 2) download | SourceForge.net
