Why cannot i record using audacity? with wired and wireless mike

    Hi,
I recorded a song by me few days ago. My son wanted a wireless mike recording thro computer. I bought one wireless mike, which has a mike , wired connector, wireless receiver with antenna. I inserted the batteries on both mike and receiver, while mike shows on position as a red light, the receiver does not show anything, when connected with the mike socket, the red socket.
I kept the receiver on ON position, and try to record. There is no detection of sound in the audacity. There is no progress bar showing the recording, the brown progress bar.

as the receiver was having a bigger socket plug, i was provided with a converter which exactly fitted with the red socket of my old computer.
I tried then with wired mike, which i used to record, this does not either record. There was a roaring sound continuous from the speaker, which could not be stopped by any other thing than plugging out the mike socket.
Would anybody advice, why i could not do which i did previously.

I had to go with Cyberlink's WaveEditor because my Audacity no longer worked. I think it was much more my over-all Windows configurations, setups, etc. rather than Audacity. And then again, my Audacity never was upgraded by me, that could have been the problem.

    Hi, Roland ,
Is this reply to my query? Or you also have the problem.

    Hi,
    Update:
i could record with audacity with wired mike of the same make. But when i remove the wired part and inserted the receiver with antenna with battery, it does not record in audacity and even in windows recorder.
I checked with recording devices and the recording green bars does not show any activity by checking by singing a few lines. It works with wired mike.
The receiver has one antenna like thing, and had a provision of inserting the battery. As already said the red light of battery not glowing when i press the on switch on the receiver.
Would it be the cause for not recording wireless? Would any expert give solutions to my problem.

Yes, originally, awhile back, I had problems with Audacity. Went with Cyberlink WaveEditor. I'm only suggesting trying another similar product because there might just simply be computer<-->configurations,-->Audacity miss-match.

    Hi, Thank you.
Is that a free program or paid. If please give the link for free download.
I wish to tell you that while i made this query, i forgot to add the wireless transmitter to the mike. But, i do find a peculiar thing. While i switch on after inserting a battery in the receiver, the right light did not glow. Is there any defect in it. Should it glow, while i switch on.
Or it will auto switch on when wireless connection is established.
It is plug and play mike , and if i insert it it auto play the sound, when i sing. IN audacity, i could record it of course, with the play being heard while recording. But when i inserted the wireless receiver, it does not pick up. Please Roland.
Should the red light glow when i inserted the battery and switch on. Please
