and when i do so i pops up with an error message saying
"you need to confirm this operation"
it gives me the choices try again or cancel
and try again does not suceeed
ive tried this with many files
    its just made me

    Hello squalicorax,

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

If you copied these from another OS then it may be a permissions problem. You can right click on the file/properties/security tab. Click on 'Advanced'. Click on Owner tab and edit. Orrrr, you can use this tutorial to make it much easier. Context Menu - Take Ownership - Vista Forums For Vista but works in 7.

If that doesn't help then go back to the securities tab and click on your username. If you do not have full control, click on edit and again on your username. Click on Allow Full control. See if things work then.

    Please keep us informed.

It's a bug, and has been reported to MS, I still have this problem occasionally, kinda random, and kinda annoying :) Here's hoping it will be fixed soon

Yes, some permissions settings are unavailable in this build.
There are also sections of the registry which are uneditable. I guess that's unavoidable for Beta builds and exactly why MS is doing such a big Beta program with 7.

Is the file/s you are trying to tag currently in use (either by Windows Media Player or some other third-party utility)? It may very well be that the file has been locked for exclusive access by the player program you are using.

Try closing the program and then try to tag the file/s again. You may have to wait a few seconds after closing the player before it will work.

i certain no program is using the files its just strange that this bug has not been fixed yet but maybe i need to install the latest beta

edit i installed a 3rd party tagging software and now im able to tag my music
which makes no sense but it works

    Right.

Are you using "Right-Click,Properties,Details,Apply,OK" when tagging, or the details pane along the bottom of explorer?

Also, do you have the preview pane open on the right of Windows Explorer?

i tried both and both methods didnt work

it seems that this only affects song that existed in my prior windows vista installation seeing that a new cd in windows 7 allows me to tag it
