I'd rather not switch programs and just wait for corgano to get back to me.
I just right click and open with Windows Media Player. Win7 64
Copy run32dll.exe from either C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (if you have x64) into C:\Windows\gif folder.
Then right click on the run32dll.exe and click on properties.
Goto the Compatibility tab, add a checkbox to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Choose Windows XP in the dropdown (Service Pack 3 worked for me).
As Darkwing said, this allows animated gifs in "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", but not "Windows Photo Viewer"
Sorry if I'm out of place with this question but kinda got lost trying to read all these pages. I'm not concerned with animated gifs but would love to have Windows Picture & Fax Viewer just 'cuz I liked the way it worked with my screen captures in XP. Is that possible & just how would I go about it?
Thanx,
grits
It's been awhile, how did it work in XP that is different in w7, other than not playing animations?
When I had XP I could do a scrolling screen capture of things like my list of Installed Programs or the list of items in Event Viewer & with Pic & Fax Viewer it would actually let me then scroll through the entire list. Now with the Photo Viewer in Windows 7, it will show the entire list but it's such small print I can hardly read it & the zoom in Photo Viewer just shows parts at a time. I hope this makes sense to you guys. I might have even saved an example shot that I could post here if that might help. I'll look for it after I post this much.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I use png for my screen shots. I found an example shot to post here. Had this been done with XP Viewer, it would have shown only down to 'Scanned Docs' but then had a scroll bar to see the rest.

When you zoom in w7 picture viewer click the image and you can drag it with the cursor, up, down, sideways.
Nope, tried that but still not what I'm looking for, Thanks anyway.
not sure what you mean grits
Also (finally) adding option to install for other image types as well.

Thanks corgano for reply, hope I can explain it right. When I had XP I could take a screen shot of a window like this one where in order to read it all, you use the scroll button & the Windows Pic Viewer WOULD let me scroll but the new Windows 7 Photo Viewer won't, it's just all there in one window but not easy to read due to small size (my eyes are 69 yrs. old). I've tried the suggestions for zooming, etc. but really prefer the scrolling feature & was just wondering if I would be able to use what you've come up with for that.
I'm not too good at putting my thoughts into words, sorry.
