These problems would all be solved with zoom, which I am working on implementing, but it does not seem very plausible

Try putting out the idea to make a codec for WIC to support animated gifs

I also made this because IE took to long to start up.
    gifview.exe
Set This as the default program to view gif images. It is written in GDI+, so you can expect the same level functionality as the onw in win XP. As it was written by me, I can taylor it to suit your needs. Source available on request

Wow! i was searching for a program that did exactly this. I found this link. Signed up to the forum just to tell you thank you!

    works great!

Hi, I'm a Newbie on Windows 7 Pro, and I have a simular problem. When I get an email with a >mid/GIF file that in XP would auto play when you open up the email, but in windows 7 or Office 2007 this does not happen, why? I sure miss out on some good emails becuase this doesn't work in W7.

This is because windows 7 renders images useing WIC (windows imaging component), and does not come with a codec for animated gif files. Windows XP used GDI+, which does support animated gif files.

    Hi Corgano,

First, thanks for replying, but is there a fix or program that will allow the animated to play?
    Thanks,
    John

Awesome program Corgano! Thanks so much for writing the code and sharing it with us! :)

I can't believe Windows removed that basic functionality.

It's not something that was removed, it was something that was forgotten. when they wrote windows 7, they rewrote the entire kernel, and didn't remember to support animated gifs.
