MP3 Music Files Locked Up Tight ???
In order to re-partition the primary HDD, I have been moving everything that isn't the O/S and Programs from one machine to temporary storage on an external HDD.
Everything has went off without a hitch until I tried to move a folder that contained a couple hundred or more MP3 bought-and-paid-for music files.
This represents maybe 10% of the music files that I have already moved without a single problem.
I first set up Synchredible to copy the entire collection, which it did except for this one entire folder.
I tried to manually drag-drop a file from that folder and got informed that I needed administrator permission to continue; I am the administrator; I have full access and permissions, as well as every other user on all of our machines.
I double-checked permissions and such and all was as it should be; there is no reason that I can figure why this should not work.
I tried to play a song and got refused again, telling me that I did not have permission.
I tried a different music player with the same results.
I have checked and rechecked shares permissions and there is no reason why I should not be able to do whatever with these files.
All the other Music folders are completely accessible.
I have all of this stored and backed up a dozen different ways and the music is playable on all these other machines/drives.
The machine in question used to be the only machine and it was the first landing place for all of this music.
I have always before been able to copy it to other machines/drives and load it on MP3 players and such.
For whatever reason, now it won't let me do anything with it.
As, like I have said, I have this stored in many places; thus, I am not so concerned that I cannot access these files.
What does worry me though is the mysterious why and what has happened; if this were my only copies, they would be lost.
Also, although I have not yet tried deleting the folder, I am certain that deleting is not going to be allowed either; that is going to throw a big snag in my plan.
I NEVER encrypt anything.
These files were 100% accessible the last time I messed with them.
Nobody gets past the door alive, unless I let them.
Pray tell, what has happened to lock this folder and how do I regain access ?
Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.
