no sound during video capture vlc

I have a EzCAP168 ezcap video capture device attached to a Windows 7 Acer laptop. I installed the software and drivers and it installs a program called Honestech VHS to DVD 2.0 SE, which only gives me a small preview window that is not re-sizable when watching tv. Sound and video works in this program. This laptop does not have Windows media Center installed.

My problem is getting any software to use this device.

I've tried NextPVR and Kodi. Neither one can pick up the capture device. I tried VLC and it will pick up the video but not the sound. I've been fooling around with the sound settings with VLC but no luck.

NextPVR lists my EzCAP as IPTV and the Device Manager in Windows list the device as SMI Grabber Device. I could get the sound to work in VLC that would be very helpful. Any suggestions? I've already searched online but found no suitable solutions.

Otherwise could anyone recommend another media player that might be able to access this capture device. I don't watch much TV just an occasional show like Grimm, iZombie and The Big Bang Theory. Being able to record would help as well.

I use the free version of WMCapture. For a small fee, you can also get the pro version.

OK. Thanks. I'll download it and give it a shot and see what happens. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Here is another one - Expression Encoder - that I have used in the past. Makes good quality. But you need CPU muscle for the encoding. This is a tutorial I wrote at the time.

Screen Capture and Video Editing in High Quality

Btw - in Linux there is a really nice one. It is called - recordmydesktop - in 1 word.

I tried wm capture but not exactly what I'm looking for. But I think you are misreading my post. I have my cable hooked up to my computer so I can watch TV on my computer. The closest I got to getting a good picture is by using VLC but I can't get the sound to come through. I'm looking for TV capture software or how to get the sound working in VLC. Thanks anyway for the replies. I'll keep you updated.
