Everything in my "Pictures" folder disappeared! How to get them back?

One day I just opened my "Pictures" folder, and everything from years and years was gone. All that is left is empty "Camera Roll" and "Saved Pictures" + a "Screenshots" folder with 2 screenshots. Last thing I remember doing before I saw that was unsuccessfully trying to turn off Navigation and pressing random things on the keyboard. I saw some of the folders under "Pictures" on the side for a few days, but when I clicked on them, they said something about "Can't open, connect external drive is needed", but everything is fine. Now I don't even see the folders on the side anymore. Now, one of the folders in my "Music" section is under "Pictures" AND under "Music". There are really, really important things on there, how can I get it back???

Simple. Just restore it from backup. Let us know how it goes. Wait... you did... You did do a back up of all those important pictures, RIGHT!??

    Do a system restore.

Why don`t you have your data backed up ?

You should not be storing any data on your windows partition.

You should be able to right click on the pictures folder and select "Restore Previous Versions". It will show you a list of shadow copies which you can open to check the folders. Then you can restore back to a time when the picture were available.

I think that if you try shadow explorer, you will be able to get back most if not all of the pictures.
