Windows Media Player mp3's not playing more than one in row

    Hi,

I have a new problem arise recently. WMP has stopped playing multiple mp3s.
    version? uh, it says = 12.0.7601.19148 (2009)

Usually, highlight a list, rtrn or click play and all plays [simple].
Now, however, first song plays fine, but WMP crashes whenever it tries to transition from first to next mp3 track, with resulting dialogue box "Windows Media Player Has Stopped Working" etc.

    A couple of curiosities:
    1. If I manually skip tracks, that is fine, it will play, but then when it has to move to the next track itself automatically, again with the "WMP Has Stopped"
    2. Restarting after crash is fine, if I chose that next song it plays fine, but again with the crashing when it tries to move to the next song in the list.
    3. This happens for a library on HD or a list of mp3's on a CDROM.
    4. If I play wave files from CD disk all works fine, plays the whole thing through with no issue.
No trouble with audio quality, that is all fine (as I see complaints on this some other WMP posts).
    5. Tried in vain and ignorance to no result:
I deleted and library rebuilt automatically as I found suggested in my search for solutions.
    6. FTR this is a work computer with the usual complement of performance crushing security, but it had worked properly for years before.

Big thank you for any help!!
    Mark.

Have you had any kind of virus, malware, worms at all I am fighting the exact same thing and it's all of my software.

If no virus have you tried to do a sfc /scannow to see if it will fix it on it's own, if you know when this first started have you tried a simple restore to see it that fixs the problem.

Thanks so much for your reply. No bad-Ware to my knowledge. Tried a Windows troubleshooting thing to no result some time ago, but will decipher what you acronym'ed and try that and report back.

    more efforts

    Hi AmCrit,

    Thanks for your suggestions.

the SFC/scannow in cmd prompt ran to 100% and didn't find any issues.

I looked into the restore and tried but ran into trouble. Since I had antivirus running this seemed to drop me into a hopeless catch22 rathole ... a dialogue box came up and said that it couldn't restore (and so nothing was copied [they said]), but then when I turned off antivirus and tried again I was only offered either to undo (but wait, you just said you "didn't changed anything" and oh well, anyway that didn't work) or to pick another restore point (but none were listed anymore apart from the one I just attempted and that didn't work either). Wanting not to satisfy the requirement of insanity and try it over and over again, I stopped and am playing songs one by one. :\

For a bit more info, I have tried moving mp3 files to play from different locations (D:\, C:\, USB) and the same crash problem arises no matter the source.

    Thanks!
