Simplest one to use that I've found is "Mobile Media Converter".

Just drag the file you want to convert into it's window and choose the output you want--avi, wmv, mp3, etc.

I just checked MKV files. I had 4 of them on my hard drive and used it to convert all 4 to avi--it worked fine.

Just a note about the video converter Handbrake, if you've considered trying it. MalwareBytes found a PUP in the installer. It seems to install an unwanted browser extension/program when you install Handbrake. I didn't bother installing it for that reason, and I would advise caution to those considering using it.

Video Converters, what's the best?
Hey all, I use WinAVI to convert my videos to DVD & other formats, but it causes Windows (Vista & 7) to revert to the Basic theme. I was wondering if there was anything better out there as I have a lot of Vids I'd like converting. Or, is there anything designed specifically for Windows 7 yet? ...
