I am currently running "Sea-tools" on along generic test as I was not sure if that was the right one to run.

I hope it is not the HDD as it is only about a year old.

If I was to go for a SSD as there are so many out there which would be a good mid range one to buy.

Here are of the Sea tools results

Ok mate now just wait for that test to complete the generic test - I take it you selected the short generic the long one takes a fair while to run.
Now don't get too anxious about the drive it might just be nothing but having said that it is no guarantee that it has not gone bad since you bought it.

As for a SSD well it does depend on your budget and what size you are looking at. AS I think I mentioned I use (usually) a 500GB drive and I am a fan of Samsung, Crucial, and SanDisk SSD's which model is important when buying one and you need to research them before paying out money.
The basic stuff to look for is the read/write rates and the Samsung 850 EVO and the Crucial MX300 are around about the same rates of those specs the SanDisk Extreme Pro is even faster than the Samsung or Crucial.
I find quite frankly the slight difference in the rates for example the Samsung EVO is quoted as 540MBs read and 520MBs write rates. The Crucial falls slightly behind those rates at 530MBs and 510MBs and as I said you would be hard pushed to tell the difference. The SanDisk Extreme Pro comes in at 550MBs and 515MBs.
Now of course it stands to reason that the better performance brands are going to be more expensive than ones that have lower performance figures but one can usually find outlets that are offering good deals. It really is up to you to have a look around at what you want.
The whole thing is that the speed of these devices will knock your socks off

It is only a thought for you and I am not trying to push you into anything:)

What might interest you is this - my bible when clean installing my machines and fixing friends and family ones. You can lose some of what I call the "bling" like transparency (I think it is a waste of space and RAM) but follow it carefully and it will give you that little bit extra out of you machine - plus it is a good way of finding your way around the system. If you do get into difficulties with anything in the tutorial then post an answer - Brink is a brilliant fellow and is always more than pleased to help you out - he has this saying that goes something like "The only stupid question is the one that is not asked".:)

    -----> UPDATE ON THE PROBLEM<-----

I went out and purchased a SSD which is great and works a lot quicker than the old drive, But I still have my photos being add to my media player. Might have to contact Microsoft about that gremling .

Ok mate and a good choice of SSD the Crucial although being cheaper and less speed also has the disadvantage of a lesser warranty period - forgot to mention that but that doesn't bother me much to be honest.

Now before you go off to Microsoft I will ask for some help on this from the others on the forum I am sure someone might know just what is going on as I am sure it is due to some file interference/corruption.
I have probably asked you before but just what media did you clean install from?

Ok mate now I am not saying that DVD is corrupted or anything but I am assuming you have the activation code on the package and are using it to install? But

Now there is an alternative way of installing and that is to use an official ISO from Microsoft. You can download that and make a bootable disk from it. Using this method is good because the ISO copy is the "freshest" copy that they have put out and will have a lot of the updates that older media disks will not have and it does mean that the updates are usually fewer to download and install.
One has to be careful when getting that ISO copy in that it must be the exact same version for Windows that you have the activation code for.
For example if you have the code for the Home Premium 64bit version then you have to make sure that you only download that version. There have been in the past some who think that they can up the ante and use an ISO for a version above the one they have only to find it gives them grief notwithstanding the non genuine messages from Microsoft

This is just an alternative thing that you might want later the choice is yours but if you are like me I keep ISO's for the versions I have on my machines (Home Premium, Pro and 10) and have used them without any problems.

Now I have rabbitted on for a bit here and I hope I haven't confused you too much but it did cross my mind that maybe he installation disk you have may be ?scratched or have some fingermarks on it - just anything that would make the read from it difficult for the optical drive. Now speaking of it - it might be an idea to run one of those cleaning disks through it just as you would with a stereo system optical drive.

Anyway have a think about what your options are.
    John:)

Yes I have the unlock key and has been recognized. But on the good side it seems to be behaving it self at the moment. As the only problem is the fact that when I upload a new photo to my photos it appears in "windows media player."

You could say that it 70% resolved.

Hmm still think it is odd that happens and I was wondering if it is worth uninstalling the WMP and then reinstalling it to cure any cross file issues.

However it does not look as if one can download WMP 12 as a separate program as it comes with the clean install which again makes me wonder if the media you have got is not quite right.

If it is ok with you I might ask for assistance on this because I am sure someone will know how that is done.

In the meantime can you run the SFC and chkdsk again please in safe mode nad use the /r switch in the chkdsk

I will wait until that is done before asking for the help.
