App to edit subtitle files?

I'm watching Line of Duty episodes that are mostly MKV files.

The only SRT files I've been able to find aren't properly synced with the video.

Subtitle Workshop 6.0 looked promising but it won't handle MKV.

Any suggestions?

How do I edit .mov files
I just bought a Kodak Zi8 which produces .mov (H264) output. I am looking for an easy tool to edit (split and join) those files without prior conversion. A lossless editor like Machete (that unfortunately cannot deal with .mov) would be preferred. I would appreciate your proposals.
