    Avi files

I have a problem trying to play Avi files that I recovered after being deleted a while ago. They dont seem to want to play , either with Windows Media Player, Quicktime or VLC Player.
    Antone know why please?

Do other AVI files play successfully with any of these players? If so, then likely the ones that you recovered got somehow corrupted or damaged in the delete / recovery process. It is possible that parts of these files were overwritten while they were deleted, because while in a deleted state, they are not protected from being overwritten.

Recovering deleted files is a delicate business; you aren't guaranteed perfect success, although often it works without a problem.

I dont have any other Avi files but the ones that were recovered. The software I used to recover them stated that two of the files were excellent and one was good.

Most likely the files weren't recovered 100%. What method did you use to recover them?

I suggest that you get some other AVI files and try to play them. You will know then if the problem is with the files you recovered, or if it is somewhere else.

Without that it's unlikely to play have you tried opening with video editing software?

VLC has codecs built-in for most video formats so, if the file won't work in VLC, it's most likely an incomplete file. In order to make sure that VLC is working correctly, you need to try a known good AVI file. If it can play that AVI but not your recovered files, that will pretty much confirm the files are the problem. If VLC can't play the known good file, then you may have a different problem.

Recovering deleted files is an iffy business, regardless of what recovery software you use.
