Can not install any photos from Android Device to my PC

I have a Samsung S5 but every time I try to upload my photos to my computer ( win 7 ) I get the message that there is no new photos to upload to my PC even after I download the drivers and install everything fresh ! the device shows up when I plug it in and I get the options to browse files or copy photos and media etc etc but when I select any of the options like to browse files it will not open any or if I select copy photos a box appears on the screen saying no new photos ! This was not a problem a few months ago as I could simply connect my phone by the USB port on my PC and download any photos that were on my phone ! Is this a common problem ?

I have a similar problem with my old iPhone - I don't use it any more as a phone, but I do use it as a voice recorder when I give a lecture. (I also use it as a camera.) I can't get the voice memos from the phone to my computer by plugging in a USB cable. I could transfer the pics via a USB cable, but it's a hassle to connect the cable.

The way I copy the files is to use Dropbox. I set up a free Dropbox account. I then copy whatever files I want to transfer to my Dropbox account. I then log into Dropbox from the computer and download the files from Dropbox to my computer.

Another option: If you can plug an SD card into your phone, you could copy the pics to the SD card, then move the SD card to your computer and copy the pics from the card to the hard drive.

It is unusual that the device is detected yet unable to upload your new pics.
You might want to try and download Kaspersky System Checker https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/system-checker
and see if that throws any light on the problem.

@mrjimphelps two suggestions are good work arounds, in the meantime - Ive been there before with my camera phone.
