Edit mov files in windows movie maker and mp4

    hi

is there a codec or something that will allow me to edit mov files and output
as mp4 in movie maker? I have the 2011 version and as the 2012 isn't available to download,
am stuck with wmv and no mov capability.

I believe the old 2012 version is stored at web archive but cant get the wayback machine to download anything. I've been told that the only thing is to download a freebie like avidemux, but where
is it safe to download from?

I am able to load a mov file into Movie Maker and output it as an mp4 file. I don't know what version of Movie Maker I have, and I'm not at home to check right now, but I believe my version is newer than yours.

This link tells you where you can download it from. Is this where you went to download it?

Update: I have Movie Maker 2012 (build 16.4.3528.0331).

Update: I have Movie Maker 2012 (build 16.4.3528.0331).

mine is the Window Live Movie maker, perhaps that's the problem.

I tried avidemux but it couldn't do what I wanted. I want to edit a whole load of files
into one not just 1 at a time. plus it uses geek jargon eg wtf is a muxer?!

I also installed the klite codec pack that some here recommend, but that
    didn't help WLMM import .mov.

yes I tried the wayback and dl the wlsetup-all file, but when I ran it, it did nothing.
however i'll try it again. thanks

Mux refers to combining video and audio into one file. File extensions eg avi, mov, mp4 are just containers for the audio and video (which can be encoded with various codecs). I think the word mux is derived from multiplex - an engineering term for sending several signals down 1 wire, several channels on one TV signal etc. Demux is the reverse process.

So after chopping bits out of your movie in Avidemux, you choose the codecs eg mpeg4 and AAC, select a suitable mux eg mp4 - and render it.

One thing I like about Avidemux is how you can chop movies (say top and tail) without re-encoding - as long as you edit on an I-frame. Just set video + audio to copy, set the mux same as source, and it's done in literally 2 secs. No re-encoding means no loss of quality.

It's just a steep, initial learning curve.

fine but as I said I want to edit a whole load of mov files into 1 on a timeline, so avidemux is not for me.

I tried dl the wlsetup-all from wayback but when I ran it said it was invalid.

Post 5 both do all that and more often you need to install QuickTime to edit mov files

Is it safe to dl WMM from this site? Sometimes these progs are used as bait to the unwary
and they install all kinds of gremlins on computers. eg
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...9-c46723a9f552

and has anyone tried the link here

    http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-all/en/wlsetup-all.exe

when I dl the wlsetup-all.exe from wayback, which I assume is the same thing, it was invalid.
    I followed this link:

    http://web.archive.org/web/201604231...lsetup-all.exe
