PC has movie stuttering and lag

Hi.
I need help for the following problem. I notice a lot of stuttering when watching movies or videoclips in my pc. It has been for sometime but recently it got worse. Some programs take long time to respond and sometimes it gives a black box where the application should be.
I have
Intel i7 2600K CPU
Intel DP67DE Motherboard
8 GB Ram Memory
Nvidia 980 Graphics Card
Corsair CX500 PCU
1000 gb HDD+ 250 GB SSD
Windows 7 64 bit
Avast Premier, Malwarebytes free
Please help out a bit :)

Hi hermanthehermit,
Your System specs say Win8, this forum is Win7 but Ok, here goes:
Have you run
sfc /scannow to check for system file corruption.
Also could be display driver problems, or Graphic Card problems.
I'd try sfc /scannow from Administrative CMD first.
Start

, type cmd, right-click run as administrator
copy and paste with mouse, ctrl + c won't work in CMD console.
If errors are noted, try running it again once or twice
If that's not a problem, may be other two I noted above.

Hi and thanks for the fast reply :)
I have win7 but it must have been old information since that is from 2012.
About the graphics card, I just replaced my old gtx 560 to 980 but that didnt solve the problem. Drivers are up to date.
Just a question about the sfc/ scannow. Correct me if I am wrong but since I have SSD could this method damage or wear my drive or am I wrong? That's what I heard in the past.

As far as using the sfc /scannow, I don't see any harm in using it since it only looks for corrupted or missing Windows system files. Running chkdsk /r (implies /f) shouldn't cause any problems either.

I've run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r on my SSD with no issues whatsoever. Windows, on startup, a couple times, ran chkdsk to correct index entries and orphans.

I wouldn't make it a habit, or schedule regularly using either as it just adds unnecessary wear and tear on your SSD. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

What you may have heard in the past, was regarding fragmentation. Windows detects SSDs and disables defragmentation. HDDs have platters and fragmentation is an issue, not a daily or even weekly, SSD is akin to flash drive, no platter(s), and fragmentation isn't an issue. If you've ever run defrag on HDD, windows native defrag, or 3rd party defrag tools, check for fragmentation, report the percentage, and most, if not all, make recommendation to either defrag or not necessary.

On the lag, have you tried adjusting resolution or refresh rate? Did you peruse user manual for your graphic card(s) & monitor?

Hi. I ran the scannow, but it didn't come up with any problems to be fixed. Thanks for the information, I wasn't sure of this.
I tried adjusting the resolution and refresh rate(its up to 144 hz) but the problem doesn't really go away. I have recently replaced the monitor and graphics card too, and there's nothing to be changed. Could it be hardware issue? Could PSU in any way affect this? It's old and already making funny noises.

Yes thank you very much but I have already been searching the web for answers. I have tried tips and tricks they have insisted on trying. I have changed the video player, downloaded codecs, tuned settings, updated drivers, changed harddrive, monitor and video card etc tweaks. Nothings seems to help.
So its not software related issue. I got a motherboard from my friend maybe I should test it.

Another problem that I have with is that black on images, videos and also on bootup screen seem to be bllocky and pixelated. Google told me to switch resolution or update drivers. This won't help. Would anyone know what to do in this case?
