    Recover JPEG images

    Hi,

Please can anyone help - I have moved a number of photos from a USB thumb drive to my external HDD and somewhere in the process of copying and pasting - I have managed to corrupt the pictures. Well I think I had and cut and pasted as opposed to copy and pasted the pictures. I tried 'Recuva Software' which showed the JPEG's icon and the correct number I had (350+). However when you open they are showing red crosses as images. Tried 'Recuva' again but now this is not recovering which suggest they may have been over written.

Afterwards, I tried 'EaseUs' and this does after lengthy wait showing the recovered images singularly if I enter a randomised search of JPEG from my original USB thumb drive and opening the file confirms this. Now though, I know they are there, I can only see one image at time and then it will ask for an activation code or a payment Is there a way to retrieve all my photos back again with it being a free software or another method?

    Hi 70816Bit,

Change the folder view where the photos have been copied to to Details.
What sort of sizes are they showing if any?
What happens if you right click them and click Open As, what options do you have?
Have you tried any of those options?

    I hope this helps!

    EDIT:

Is the USB still connected to the external HDD where you copied the pictures to?
If so, can you Undo Move?

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for coming back to me; have just re-launched 'EaseUs' and searched for as JPEG. It does give a file path; very similar or possibly the same as where it originated from. But, when you try to enter it in File Explorer does not recognise it. Right clicking gives you two options a preview - and it does look missing file and the other option is Recover - where it will ask you for a License Code. Think this might be the end of the user of 'EaseUs' as they are there but I would have to pay and it's 354 images

First, check and see if they are in a shadow copy.
ShadowCopyView - Shadow copy viewer for Windows 10/8/7/Vista

    If not,
You could try ZAR. (Image recovery section is free)
    Digital image recovery - ZAR

Download ZAR demo. You do not need a paid version of ZAR to do photo recovery. This set of functions is provided free of charge

    Or puran free version
    Puran File Recovery Download

    Hi SIW2,

Thanks for the reply - I tried 'ShadowCopyView', no luck am afraid and 'ZAR' showed files in the fragmented folder and basically a lot of numbers but no pictures and the preview option confirmed this.
