I'm trying to make a slideshow of slides I had professionally converted to digital. I start the burn and after about 45 minutes and 89 or so % completion, the disc is ejected and the message says install a writeable disc. I've wasted too many discs with the understanding of the problem. Thanks for any help.

How big is it maybe to big for dvdwrite it to an iso file and see how big it is
Thanks. I don't know what an iso file is, but I am already working on a smaller "burn." I'll let you know if that works.
How large are the files that you are trying to burn? Are you using a CD or DVD? Have you tried other brands?
I've tried smaller files and it still doesn't work. I'm using GQ DVD-R, 4.7 gb 16x. I do have some dvd's that worked; they were "use dvd as thumb drive;" it's the use dvd in dvd player" mode that won't complete the burn. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm still playing around and wasting discs. Maybe I should practice on rw dvd's.
You didn't answer the question on file size. Also have you tried other brands? Your DVD laser might be going out.
I don't know the file size, but it's 261 slides - fewer than came on the disc from the photo lab; I have not tried another brand of disc, and I'm afraid your last observation is probably the right one - the laser might be going out, but it reads discs OK. I just tried the smaller burn at a slower speed, but it still kicked the disc out. What I don't understand is why it waits until 98% complete to say the disc is not recordable. I have the slides on a thumb drive; I'll see if I can get them on my wife's computer and then burn a disc there. I appreciate everyone's input. A huge part of the problem is my ignorance.
Try ImgBurn, when you add data to the queue, you'll have info on how much disk-space remains. Will also prompt you if something is incorrect, i.e. settings, etc.
